This method is based on the fact that there is a strong connection between our breath and our state of mind.

When we are stressed or anxious, our breathing tends to become shallow and fast which sends signals to the brain amplifying the stress response further. By consciously changing these patterns through deep controlled breathing exercises, we can send signals back to the brain indicating that everything is calm thus helping us feel less stressed.

One simple breathing exercise you could start with is called ‘diaphragmatic breathing’ or ‘belly breathing’. Remember, stress is not necessarily bad. In fact, it can be beneficial in certain situations by providing motivation or helping us overcome challenges. However, chronic stress without effective management strategies can lead to various health problems including heart disease, diabetes and depression among others.
